News

Sustainability is no longer an option, but a necessity in the world of wine. Our winery, located in the Rueda DO, has achieved the Sustainable Wineries for Climate Protection certification.

What is the SWfCP certification?

The Sustainable Wineries for Climate Protection certification, promoted by the Spanish Wine Federation (FEV), recognises those wineries that integrate sustainability criteria into their management, especially in four key areas:

  • Reduction of greenhouse gas emissions
  • Energy efficiency
  • Water management
  • Waste reduction

This certification has established itself as the benchmark environmental standard for the wine sector in Spain.

Main sustainable actions in the Rueda winery

To achieve this distinction, Bodegas Marqués de Cáceres has followed the steps taken at its Rioja winery and has implemented a transversal strategy based on environmental, economic and social sustainability. These are the main measures adopted:

  1. Installation of solar panels for self-consumption of energy

Photovoltaic solar panels have been installed to supply a large part of the winery’s electricity consumption with clean, renewable energy, considerably reducing its emissions.

  1. Renovation of some of its equipment to improve energy efficiency

The modernisation of machinery and production systems has made it possible to reduce energy consumption, optimise processes and improve industrial sustainability indicators.

  1. Reuse of treated water for irrigation purposes

The water treated in the winemaking processes is reused to irrigate the vineyards, thus closing the water cycle and promoting responsible use of water resources.

  1. Bottle weight reduction and sustainable packaging

The weight of the bottles has been reduced, reducing the impact of transport and the use of materials. In addition, recyclable and PEFC/FSC certified materials are used in the packaging, guaranteeing forest sustainability.

  1. Promotion of the local fabric and social commitment

The winery collaborates with local suppliers, prioritises local trade and actively participates in events and activities in the region, strengthening the circular economy and the roots in the community.

A long-term commitment to the environment

This certification is an acknowledgement of a committed working model, but also a starting point to continue improving every day. Our aim is to produce high quality wines without compromising the future of the planet.

Why it is important to opt for sustainable wineries

More and more consumers value wines that, in addition to having personality and origin, are produced under sustainability criteria. Certifications such as the SWfCP guarantee that behind each bottle there is a transparent, efficient and environmentally friendly process.
